Consultant ear, nose, and throat surgeon St James's and Seacroft University Hospitals 1968-93 (b Dudni, India, 1928; q Bombay, 1954; DLO, FRCS Ed), died from metastatic carcinoma on 22 February 2001.
After qualifying he worked in villages in Karnataka and at Christian Medical College, Vellore, coming to England in 1959 as a postgraduate. Having trained in High Wycombe, Warrington, Liverpool, and Barnsley, he was appointed ENT senior registrar at Leeds General Infirmary in 1965. Though small in stature, Arun had a huge personality. A great communicator, he possessed the rare gift of a photographic memory for names and faces. In retirement he devoted his energies to travelling and to learning French. He had a passion for fast cars and he loved his pet dogs. He leaves a wife, Vimal; two children; and four grandchildren.
