Former general practitioner Romsey, Hants (b 1919; q Middlesex Hospital 1942; OBE), d 7 May 2002.
He had a distinguished war record—he was commended for bravery after landing early on D Day and he was seriously wounded in January 1945. After marrying Katherine, who had also been a major in the Royal Army Medical Corps, he joined the family practice in 1947. Always intensely involved in local affairs, he served on various committees and was chairman of two of the three Romsey Hospital appeals and of the Romsey Abbey Appeal, which raised £250 000 20 years ago. In the 1960s he was deputy chairman of the Chief Scouts Advance Party. He retired in 1985. He leaves four children and nine grandchildren.
