Former consultant paediatrician Bolton (b Manchester 1916; q Manchester 1940; FRCP, DCH), died from cerebrovascular disease on 2 May 2002.
He was a house surgeon at Ancoats Hospital, Manchester, before serving in the Royal Army Medical Corps until 1946. His consultant post initially covered Bolton, Wigan, and Leigh—a vast undertaking—but
after an increase in the number of consultant appointments his work was confined to Bolton. He had special interests in asthma and cerebral palsy. In his younger days he was a keen sportsman, and captained the Manchester University rugby XV and the Universities Athletic Union team. Progressive illness marred his latter years. Predeceased by his wife, he leaves two children and his grandchildren.
