Sir J O J Okezie was not only a physician but also a politician, an educationalist, a philanthropist, and a knight of St Christopher of the Anglican Church. He was a member of the Eastern Nigeria House of Assembly, a federal commissioner for health and for agriculture, and chairman of the governing council of the College of Education, Owerri. Time magazine awarded him a special prize in 1988. The International Biographical Centre, Cambridge, England, dedicated the 13th edition of the International Who is Who of Intellectuals to him in 1998 for his contribution to science, medicine, and the church. Dr Okezie kept peacocks and antelopes. He leaves a wife, Lady Rose Chioma Okezie; four children; and many grandchildren.
