Edith Jackson Burton (née Whitelaw)

graphic file with name burton.f1.jpgFormer general practitioner South Yorkshire (b Kilbirnie, Ayrshire, 1923; q Glasgow 1946}, died from cardiac problems and pneumonia on 30 June 2002.

After working in several Glasgow hospitals Edith became a general practitioner in South Yorkshire. She worked full time for several years before marrying and having a family. Returning to her career, Edith worked for the Barnsley family planning service as well as being the store doctor for Marks and Spencer in Barnsley. She retired fully in 1986. Predeceased by her husband, Jack, she leaves three children and six grandchildren.
