After 37 years in practice, pausing only briefly for a heart valve replacement, he retired to an active village life, organising with his wife, Margaret, everything from the village hall to the carnival and, as churchwarden, working tirelessly for the village church. He leaves Margaret; two children; three stepchildren; and 14 grandchildren.
