Former consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist Southend and Rochford Hospitals (b London 1907; q London 1932; MRCOG, FRCOG, FRCS), d 24 June 2002.

Eileen M Whapham served in London County Council hospitals throughout the Blitz and later in the emergency medical service in Essex. In 1945 she was appointed consultant gynaecologist to the Mildmay Mission Hospital, moving to the Southend and Rochford Hospitals in 1946. Retiring in 1967, she moved to Hampshire, where she occupied herself with local politics and the care of handicapped children. She was a past chairman of the Southend branch of the BMA and an elder of the United Reformed Church. She did not marry, but leaves an adopted daughter.
