After national service in the navy Jim worked in general practice for 35 years, most of the time in Walthamstow, London, where he was treasurer of the local medical society for many years. He worked for a short time in Scotland and returned there after he retired. He was a dog lover and had a passion for fishing. He enjoyed a lively debate and a good dram. Predeceased by his first wife, Marion, he leaves his second wife, Marjorie; three children; and six grandchildren.
