Alun Lloyd Thomas practised from 1936 to 1940 in New Ferry, Cheshire. He served under the London Missionary Society from 1940 to 1950 at the Nethersole Hospital, Hong Kong, and under the United Church of Canada from 1951 to 1957 at the George McDougall Hospital, Smoky Lake, Alberta, Canada. He was a family doctor in Edmonton, Alberta, from 1957 to 1976. He and his wife spent the first three years of married life in a Japanese internment camp in Hong Kong. He loved to paint watercolours and enjoyed walking in the mountains and gardening. His wife died in 1989.
