Former general practitioner Kendal (b Northumberland 1934; q Leeds 1958; DRCOG), died in Tromso, Norway, on 28 August 2002 following a fall from a yacht.
After national service as a Royal Air Force medical officer in Aden, Dick Jackson spent a year at Crawley Hospital to gain further experience in obstetrics and gynaecology before entering general practice in the Lake District. He was a fell runner, ran in four London marathons, and was a valued member of the Kendal Mountain Rescue Team for 20 years, but sailing was probably his first love. He qualified as a yachtmaster and spent many happy hours cruising around Scotland and the Mediterranean. He leaves a wife, Gill; four children; and seven grandchildren.
