The Human Genome Project has been completed two years ahead of schedule, potentially enabling scientists to better understand the role of genes in medical conditions and to develop new treatments. Dr Panos Deloukas (pictured), head of the project at the Sanger Institute, has been working on chromosome 20, which could shed light on why some people are more likely to susceptible to eczema and diabetes.
