Maureen trained in Manchester before becoming consultant to the Radium Institute in Liverpool. In 1955 she moved to Glasgow and revolutionised radiotherapy practice by establishing standardised treatment protocols. She became the expert opinion for gynaecological cancer for the west of Scotland. A formidable and forthright physician and a member of the Women's Medical Federation for 68 years, she inspired generations of doctors and scientists to review their working methods and constantly audit the long term consequences of radiation therapy in their patients. Maureen gave her last presentation on vulval carcinoma aged 83. In her final years she had Alzheimer's disease. She leaves two children and two grandchildren.
