Consultant in paediatric intensive care Southampton General Hospital (b 1958; q London 1983; MRCPCH), d 13 March 2003.
Having first tried his hand at surgery, Sid realised that his vocation lay in the care of children and their families. He trained in paediatrics in Australia and the United Kingdom and trained in paediatric intensive care at the Alder Hey and Great Ormond Street Hospitals. His singleminded commitment to the excellence of the paediatric intensive care unit in Southampton led to its expansion and evolution into one of the foremost units in the country. From here he organised and led the retrieval of sick children from around the country, as well as retrieving the children of armed forces personnel from all over the world. He leaves a wife, Camille, and two daughters.
