General practitioner Glasgow (b 1953; q Glasgow 1977; MBE, MPH, FRCGP), died on 28 June 2003 after a fall at the end of a wonderful day when he had successfully climbed Mont Blanc.

He was the first chairman of the Glasgow audit group and led on the implementation of several clinical guidelines in Glasgow. He was also divisional medical director, Glasgow Primary Care Trust, and assistant director, postgraduate GP education, West of Scotland region. He took forward clinical governance initiatives including the successful introduction of practice based accreditation. As chairman of an NHS Quality Improvement Scotland working group, he was in the process of completing the first set of quality standards for community hospitals in Scotland. He leaves a wife, Alison; and two daughters.
