Former general practitioner Abingdon, Oxfordshire (b Cottingham, Yorkshire, 1918; q The London Hospital 1952), died from leukaemia on 14 October 2002.
Jack decided on a medical career after enlisting in the Royal Army Medical Corps at the outbreak of the second world war. He went straight into general practice in Abingdon after house jobs at The London and retired in 1979, continuing as a locum until he was 70. He was a keen sportsman and enjoyed walking, shooting, and fishing. Jack devoted much time to charity in his retirement. He leaves a wife, Monica, and three children.
