Letter to the Editor: A Conversation With … Emily Wilson PhD, Contemporary Interpreter of the Iliad, on Listening, Hearing, and Communicating

To the Editor,

Thank you for the conversation with Emily Wilson in the August 2024 issue of CORR® [1]. I greatly enjoyed reading it, particularly in the context of an orthopaedic surgery journal.

As a medical editor, I admire Professor Wilson’s disciplined and creative methodology and her focus on distinguishing unique voices. Every research paper reveals a unique personality, and each one benefits from collaboration among investigators, research team members, and editors.

Professor Wilson said in her interview, “One is to be as patient as possible, within any necessary constraints” [1]. To me, this captures the challenge for all of us when we encounter another person who depends on us, hoping for a mutually beneficial experience. Given the variability of our daily lives, I think we should be slow to fault anyone who might seem to misjudge this moment and be quick to notice even fleeting success in others or ourselves.
