During the preparation of this Commentary, the authors consulted various experts for comments. Among these, Drs. Ralph S. Baric and Zhengli Shi, were asked for technical clarification about their 2015 Nature Medicine paper which was cited as Reference #7 of the Commentary. Drs. Baric and Shi did not meet the Journal’s criteria for authorship or acknowledgements; however, we note here the comments they gave to the article.
