Dear Readers,
As I take over as Editor in Chief (EIC), I welcome ‘One and All Readers’ with great humility, enthusiasm embedded with deep sense of responsibility. Though I knew this responsibility was to come, it fell suddenly. It took little time for me to digest the fact that the post of EIC is at my doorstep and I welcome it with open hands.
The role of Editor in Chief (EIC) of the Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology of India popularly known as JOGI is very significant and sensitive. JOGI is an Official publication of Federation of Obstetrics and Gynaecology of India (FOGSI), which is National Body consisting of 286 member societies with approximately 46,000 members. JOGI has been the backbone of academic wing of FOGSI with history of disseminating knowledge, keeping pace with research and advancement in the field of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
After having worked for many years for JOGI in various capacities/role, I have finally reached the most challenging and responsible position in JOGI. I am thankful to my illustrious predecessors—Editor Emeritus for their valuable guidance and constant support. They have made all their efforts to enhance the quality of journal to present state. Without Team effort and support, it is not possible to achieve success and for this I would like to acknowledge continuous support rendered by Editorial Board Members and National corresponding Editors. The Secretarial/Managerial side members are working very tirelessly, looking after pre-acceptance checklist, and would like to seek their continuous support. Reviewers form very important part of the system, as their opinion matters. My sincere request to all reviewers to clear articles within stipulated time, once accepted by them. All efforts will be made to reduce turnaround time (TAT) as much as possible. Online training sessions have been planned at regular intervals with Springer to impart training to all Editors, National corresponding editors (NCE) and Peer reviewers.
Readers form the most important part of system, and their constant support is of immense value. To gain more support from our Readers—all efforts will be made to include information with regard advancement, fostering innovation, disseminating useful relevant research, thereby increasing patient care.
Meticulous attention will be given to all issues of the Journal being ready on time, to be dispatched. Critical support from readers, contributors, reviewers will make JOGI team strong with meaningful forward progress.
Currently JOGI is indexed in PubMed Central. Efforts are being made to have it indexed in PubMed (highest level). All the predecessor EICs have left no stone unturned to achieve the same. Good original articles are of immense value for the journal. Case reports have limited space; however, few case reports that are of immense practical value to the reader will always find its place. Review articles, pictorial essay, instrumental/procedural innovations, meta-analysis, systematic review and impactful useful information for patient well-being will always be included.
‘Impact factor’ (IF) of the Journal can be improved, once journal is indexed with reputed indexing agency for 3 years. IF is calculated from the number of citations that article receives. With higher IF, research quality value of journal increases.
The Program for Inculcating the Culture of Scientific Enquiry and pursuit (PISCEP) is one initiative introduced by JOGI, firmly supported by FOGSI. PICSEP program is conducted in 20 societies all over India (first cum first serve basis), 4 YUVA FOGSI and AICOG (All India Congress of Obstetrics and Gynaecology) in a year to disseminate knowledge and interest in Research Methodology. It encourages postgraduates, younger generation practitioners and senior experienced clinicians to take part and contribute toward journal. It gives an insight into functioning of journal, writing skills, methodology of research, literature search, observational data and statistical analysis and rejection factors. Most Universities have made it mandatory for postgraduates to have oral/poster presentation and/or publish at least one article before appearing for examinations, apart from the Thesis which is a Must. The journal has seen distinct improvement in quality of articles received over a period because of PICSEP program. During COVID time, PICSEP workshops were conducted online and web-based program may be implemented for better reach out. PICSEP has driven home the value of Research Methodology with Har Ghar FOGSIANS. One of the Universities has included JOGI in their ‘must read section’ in the syllabus of postgraduate Obstetrics and Gynaecology course. JOGI is involved with Indian College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (ICOG), having once a month web-based program based on Research Methodology and article presentation by the Authors. JOGI itself has started the program of ‘Clinical Pearls’ that gives an opportunity to Authors to discuss/present their work published in Journal. Every year, 3 Best Paper prizes are given in Senior and Junior Category each.
Currently, Journal is in good dynamic space and would try to make it stronger with some changes as per the demand. This will be possible with good team support, and I look forward to it. The Team JOGI consisting of Editorial Board members, National corresponding editors, Secretarial side and Peer reviewers have always been very supportive and will continue to do so to maintain high standard. To acknowledge immense contribution and continuous support, certificates have been given to the reviewers. Expecting overwhelming support from Authors/Researchers with their collective wisdom and Readers with their interest is very valuable. The team JOGI will try their level best with open mind and inclusivity, so far as any suggestions are concerned, that will be crucial in shaping future of journal.
The contribution of an original article will help make journal an interesting read, and citation of relevant literature from journal will help climb indexing at highest level.
The team JOGI will try their level best with open mind and inclusivity, so far as any suggestions are concerned, there by making it ‘look-forward to’ experience that can be thought provoking and progressing toward better patient care. Despite advancement in technology from artificial intelligence (AI) to genomics, journal has its unique space and importance that is irreplaceable. Our success will lie in making it a trusted platform, exemplifying research and practical aspect of patient care that resonates with global perspective. More one shares knowledge, more one gets it, as learning is non ending process.
Looking forward to challenging journey together, taking it to greater height and remain connected in future.
