Abstract

Mega scientific conferences increasingly suffer from the need for short and poster presentations without discussion. An alternative is to organize workshops in hotels large enough to accommodate all participants. This significantly increases the opportunities for constructive discussion during breakfasts, lunches, dinners and long evenings that can bring together experts of scientific and clinical sub-specialties and young fellows. Time for groups' discussions and new collaborations are increased so as the job opportunities for the young researchers. The Padova Muscle Days have offered in the previous thirty-five years these opportunities, which have matured into innovative and multidisciplinary results to the point that it came naturally to underline it with a neologism now included in the title of the 2025 event: “Mobility Medicine”, a discipline not yet officially recognised, that makes explicit the call for rejoining knowledges dispersed in sub-specialisations. The included program of the Padua Days on Muscle and Mobility Medicine 2025 (2025Pdm3) will be hosted at the Hotel Petrarca in Euganean Thermae (Padua, Italy) from 25 to 29 March 2025. It further testifies by listing unique Sessions that it is possible to organize valid countermeasures to the inevitable tendencies towards hyperspecialization that the explosive increase in scientific progress brings with it. Furthermore, the European Journal of Translational Myology and Mobility Medicine (Ejtm3) will accept typescripts on results presented at the 2025Pdm3, together with the Special Section: New Trends in Musculoskeletal Imaging of the MDPI (Basel) Journal Diagnostics, because diagnosis is essential to prevent, manage and follow-up not only neuro-metabolic-muscular disorders, but the unavoidable physiologicical decay of performances in early and late aging. Hoping many others share our dreams, we look forward to meeting you at 2025Pdm3 conference.

Key Words: Padua Days on Muscle and Mobility Medicine, 2025Pdm3, European Journal of Translational Myology, Ejtm3, PAGEpress, Italy

The Padova Muscle Days (PMDs), an international meeting on skeletal muscle, began in 1985 as the First Abano Terme Meeting on Rehabilitation (Padua, Italy), to provide advice on Translational Myology. The interest has always been to influence clinical trials with the results of basic research. Indeed, function and mass of striated skeletal muscle influence and are influenced by central and peripheral neural disorders, diseases of the heart, lung, liver, metabolism, endocrine tissues, together with lifestyle and aging, not to mention cancer. Thus, over the course of thirty-five years, the Padova Muscle Days have offered those opportunities, which have matured into innovative and multidisciplinary results to the point that it came naturally to underline it with a neologism now included in the title of this series of conferences, namely "Mobility Medicine." Mobility Medicine is not yet officially recognized as an academic discipline, but the new nickname makes explicit the much-needed call to reunite knowledge currently dispersed in sub-subspecialties and finally tackle muscle weakness and improve performance. The following program of the five days of the Padua Days on Muscle and Mobility Medicine to be held 25-29 March 2025 (2025Pdm3) will be hosted at the Hotel Petrarca in Euganean Thermae, Padua, Italy. The program lists traditional and unique sessions testifying that it is possible to organize valid countermeasures to the inevitable tendencies towards hyperspecialization that the explosive increase in scientific progress brings with it. Furthermore, the European Journal of Translational Myology and Mobility Medicine (Figures 1 and 2) will accept typescripts of results presented at the 2025Pdm3, as Review, Original Articles and Ejtm3 Communications. Meantime a Special Section of the MDPI (Basel) Journal Diagnostics will accept submissions because diagnosis is a prerequisite of prevention, managements and follow-up not only of neurometabolic muscular disorders, but also of the physiologic inavoidable decay of the older adults, as well as the pathologic cachexia of cancer. The Program of the five-day 2025Pdm3 will include in-presence and on-line oral presentations of senior and early-stage scientists and clinicians from Argentina, Austria, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Egypt, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Russia, Slovenia, Sweden, Switzerland, UK and USA. The Collection of Abstracts will be e-published and released by PubMed before the 2025Pdm3 in the Issue 35(1) 2025 of the European Journal of Translational Myology (Ejtm3). As the sole example, we stress that the challenges associated with physical inactivity in the elderly, often attributed to factors such as age and concurrent medical conditions, have far-reaching implications for their well-being and independence. The lack of physical activity not only curtails their autonomy, but increases the risk of extended hospitalization, leading to issues such as neuromuscular weakening, functional limitations, and substantial healthcare expenses.1–4 Managing the progressive physical inactivity-related impairments demands ongoing attention. It should be highlighted that physical exercise, even if performed in bed (home FullBody In-Bed Gym) represents a highly promising and multifaceted option. This approach can contribute to global health promotion by enhancing cardiovascular fitness, muscle strength, flexibility, and mental well-being, making it a preventive, low-risk, time-saving and cost-effective strategy that can be tailored to individual needs and preferences. Beyond physical benefits, exercise positively impacts mental health and can serve as a complement (that perhaps a boost) to pharmaceutical interventions.5 However, community-based exercise initiatives can face various challenges, including financial constraints, difficulties in accessibility, time limitations, and a shortage of specialized guidance.6,7 Hence, adoption of home-based physical exercise routines, presents a viable and cost-efficient alternative.

In conclusion, the 2025Pdm3 will be interesting and successful as all previous "Padova Days on Muscle and Mobility Medicine."8-15
