Mutations in polI but not mutSLH destabilize Haemophilus influenzae tetranucleotide repeats

The authors wish to note that all of the mutation rates reported in this paper were calculated according to Drake (Proc. Natl Acad. Sci. USA, 88, 7160–7164, 1991) using an incorrect version of the equation f = µ[ln(Nµ)]/0.4343. The correct form of the equation is f = µ[log(Nµ)]/0.4343. Actual mutation rates (Table II) can be calculated by multiplying reported values by 1.7. Actual phase variation rates (Tables III and IV, and text) can be calculated by multiplying reported values by 2.12. Phase variation rates, previously reported in De Bolle et al. (Mol. Microbiol., 35, 211–222, 2000), are also subject to this correction. The relative values and significance of results reported are unaltered. The authors apologize for any misunderstanding arising from this error.
