The Editor-in-Chief has retracted this article. After publication, it was brought to the attention of the publisher that the DR5 blots in Figs. 4a and 5a appear to overlap, and the GAPDH blots in Figs. 5a and 6c appear to overlap. Furthermore, a number of fluorescence microscopy panels in Fig. 2g, 2h, 4f and 6h appear to overlap or partially overlap, and panels within 5b, within 5c and within 4f appear to partially overlap with frameshifts. The Editor has lost confidence in the data and conclusions of this article.

Author Sarita Das has informed the publisher that author Chanakya Nath Kundu is deceased. Author Sarita Das has stated on behalf of all other authors that they agree with the retraction.
