This article has been retracted at the request of the Editor-in-Chief.

Post-publication, concerns were raised by readers regarding the authenticity of certain figures published in the article. An investigation, conducted on behalf of the journal by the Research Integrity and Publishing Ethics team, raised additional concerns.

The figures concerned are:

• Figure 5A/β-actin: the gels appear to show signs of discontinuation between lanes 2 and 3. Lanes 3 and 4 appear to be identical, but stretched, in Figure 6A/β-actin lanes 3 and 4

• Figure 5A: Keapl western blots appear to be identical to those in Figure 6A BAX

• Figure 7A Cyt C: Lanes 1 and 2 appear to be identical

• Figure 7A Cas 9: Lanes 1 and 2 appear to be identical

• Figure 7A Cas 3: Lanes 3 and 4 appear to be identical

• Figure 8: panels A and B appear to show an area of overlap

• Figure 9: Panels A and B appear to show an area of overlap

• Figure 9: Panels B and E appear to show an area of overlap

The authors were requested to provide comment on these concerns, as well as the original unprocessed image files to aid investigation. No reply was received within the given time. The Editor-in-Chief has lost confidence in the findings of the article and has determined it should be retracted.
