The original version of the Research Article, “Generalized contact matrices allow integrating socioeconomic variables into epidemic models” by A. Manna et al., contained discrepancies between the text and the insets of Figs. 2, 3, and 4 in the main text and figs. S2, S4, S5, and S6 in the Supplementary Materials. The main text stated the insets compared the three outcomes for a fixed value of R0 (R0 = 2.7). However, the authors had fixed the value of the transmissibility of the disease instead of R0. Although the insets were correct, they did not correspond to what was written in the text. Edits have been made to the main text in the Results section to better reflect the relative position of peaks in the corrected figures. Additionally, due to an error in the pre-processing workflow, an earlier version of the preprocessed data was mistakenly used in Fig. 4 (A to C). The x-axis range in Figs. 2, 3, and 4 in the main text and figs. S2, S4, S5, and S6 in the Supplementary Materials have been updated to make the plots more visible.
The following corrections have been implemented:
• Figures 2, 3, and 4 have been replaced with the corrected versions.
• Edits have been made to the text in the Results section. (i) “Contact matrices stratified only by age feature a smaller and later peak” has been changed to “Contact matrices stratified only by age feature a higher and earlier peak.” (ii) “In these settings, the first model peaks a bit earlier” was changed to “In these settings, the third model peaks a bit earlier.” (iii) “The top inset of Fig. 3B shows how in this scenario the overall prevalence, estimated with a model featuring generalized contact matrices (green line),” was changed to “The top inset of Fig. 3B shows how in this scenario the overall prevalence, estimated with a model featuring contact matrices stratified only for the second dimension (red line).” (iv) “The model fed with age-stratified contact matrices (gray line) is very similar.” was changed to “The model fed with age-stratified contact matrices (gray line) is similar to the results obtained considering generalized contact matrices (green line).” (v) “The third model (red line) instead is rather different as the peak is not only lower but also delayed.” was changed to “The third model (red line), instead, is rather different as the peak is higher and earlier.”
• The Supplementary Materials file has been replaced with the corrected versions of figs. S2, S4, S5, and S6.
The authors’ conclusions are not affected by these corrections. The PDF, XML, and Supplementary Materials PDF of the article have been updated.
