We wish to inform you that we have been unable to reproduce a result described in the above paper. Specifically, we do not observe ligand-induced redistribution of FcRn expressed in MDCK cells when we compare confocal images of the distribution of FcRn–GFP in cells incubated in the presence or absence of IgG ligand (D.B.Tesar, N.E.Tiangco, S.A.Detmer and P.J.Bjorkman, unpublished results). We are in the process of repeating the other experiments described in the paper and cannot yet comment on their reproducibility, but as ligand-induced redistribution was the focus of the paper and this result cannot be replicated, we wish to retract the paper now. We deeply regret any inconvenience our publication of this result has caused for others.
The first author of this paper (T.S.R.), who performed most of the experimental procedures and data analysis, has chosen not to be associated with this retraction.
