General practitioner Kingswood, Bristol, 1953-86 (b Swinton 1921; q Edinburgh 1951; FRCGP), died from bladder cancer on 5 October 2005.
Roy Tyldesley decided to enter medical school after serving in the Friends Ambulance Unit during the second world war. His early house jobs were in Dublin and Derby, and he took up general practice in Bristol in 1953. Roy was a GP trainer and he undertook sessions in psychiatry for the Bristol University Student Health Service. He was also medical officer to the local Kraft factory and worked for BUPA Health Screening. He remained a member of the Society of Friends throughout his life. He leaves a wife, Joan; three children; and a granddaughter.
