A Contribution to the Pharmacology of Curare and its Alkaloids1
This paper is an abstract of part of a thesis presented to the Medical Faculty of the University of Edinburgh in April 1889 for graduation as Doctor of Medicine, to which was awarded a gold medal and the Christison (Gunning) Prize. The main part of the work was done in the Pharmacological Laboratory of the University of Leipzig in 1887-88 while holding an Edinburgh University scholarship. The experiments with crude curare, the bark of Strychnos toxifera, and some of those with methyl-strychnium salts were carried out in the Pharmacological Laboratory of the University of Edinburgh in 1888-89.
