Light-Regulated, Tissue-Specific, and Cell Differentiation-Specific Expression of the Arabidopsis Fe(III)-Chelate Reductase Gene AtFRO6, Plant Physiology, Volume 140, Issue 4, April 2006, Pages 1345-1354, https://doi.org/10.1104/pp.105.074138.
In May 2024, the authors were alerted to PubPeer posts (https://pubpeer.com/publications/2010C3EC7CBF23A8EAEC2C60F0BBF9) about duplication and alteration across multiple figures. Specifically:
The pFul, pSty, and pHind panels in Figure 4B and the pD1, pD2, and pD3 panels in Figure 5B are the same, with the pFul and pD1 panels flipped horizontally.
The pD4, pD5, and pD6 panels in Figure 5B and the pS1, pS2, and pD10 panels in Figure 6B are the same, with the pD4 and pS2 panels, as well as the pD6 and pD10 panels, flipped horizontally.
The authors repeated the entire set of experiments presented in these figures. The journal editors subsequently reviewed the results and affirmed the authors’ assertion that the new experimental results confirmed the authors’ conclusions are still valid. The authors apologized for the mistakes, which were caused by incorrectly mounting the related figures 4, 5, and 6.
Corrected versions of Figures 4, 5, and 6, as well as updated figure captions, appear below. These figures and captions have been corrected only in this notice to preserve the published version of record.
Figure 4.
Deletion analysis of the AtFRO6 promoter. A, Schematic maps showing wild type (pFul) and truncation mutants (pSty and pHind) of the AtFRO6 promoter-GUS constructs (not in scale for GUS coding sequence). S and H denote StyI and HindIII restriction sites, respectively. B, Analysis of the GUS activity in transgenic plants by histochemical staining. Bar = 2 mm. C, Quantitative analysis of the GUS activity in transgenic plants by the fluorimetric assay. Data presented are mean values of three independent experiments. Bars, SEs. *, Significant differences at P < 0.05 compared to the control.
Figure 5.
Mapping of cis-regulatory elements in the AtFRO6 promoter by internal deletions. A, Schematic maps of wild type (pFul) and internal deletion mutants (pD1–pD8) of the AtFRO6 promoter-GUS constructs (not in scale for GUS coding sequence). B, Analysis of the GUS activity in transgenic seedlings by histochemical staining. pFul seedlings were stained for 6 h and all others were stained for 16 h. Bar = 2mm. C, Quantitative analysis of the GUS activity in transgenic plants. Data presented are mean values of three independent experi ments. Bars, SEs. *, Significant differences at P < 0.05 compared to the control. **, Significant differences at P < 0.01 compared to the control.
Figure 6.
Definition of an AT-1-like box essential for tissue-specific and light-dependent AtFRO6-GUS expression. A, The AtFRO6 promote sequences of wild-type (pFul) and mutant (pD9, pS1, pS2, and pD10) constructs. Deleted sequences are represented by dashed lines, and substituted nucleotides are underlined. B, Analysis of the GUS activity of the transgenic plants by histochemical staining. Bar 5 = mm.
