In June 2026, the corresponding author contacted the journal to request that this article was retracted, following an institutional investigation by the author’s institution (the University of Saskatchewan) which found that this study was conducted under the incorrect animal use protocol and the institution cannot issue the correct protocol retroactively.
The article is being retracted by the Editors and the authors in accordance with COPE guidelines, as it has been determined that this issue undermines confidence in the results and conclusions reported in the article. All authors agree with the retraction.
