Abstract
These studies were started during the summer of 1914 and have been continued in varying degrees since that time. They were made possible by the De Laval Separator Company of New York City, which established a fund placed in the hands of the Treasurer of the College to meet the expenses incurred.
The firm was desirous of knowing the truth about clarification, so far as it can be determined; accordingly, the work was placed on the usual basis of Experiment Station investigational undertakings with the enjoyment of complete independence. The firm has been a constant source of helpfulness and at no time has it attempted or interfered to influence results or the free publication of the findings.
I make this statement as a due appreciation of the helpfulness, generosity and sympathetic attitude of a commercial firm. If any commercial motive exists, it can be only a desire to have facts and truth as a basis for their procedure and progress in manufacture.
