Authors’ statement: This study analyzed data procured in 2020 from a survey research firm, Opinions for Good (“Op4G”), to assess women’s health across the US in the earliest days of the COVID-19 pandemic. Based on a July 2026 inquiry to an author from a reporter for Retraction Watch and follow-up with federal law enforcement, the authors understand there are credible allegations of fraud against certain Op4G personnel that raise serious doubt about the authenticity of 94 of 3,200 surveys in the Op4G dataset and, therefore, potentially the validity of this study’s findings. There is no allegation or implication of research misconduct or wrongdoing by any of the study authors, who are deeply distressed to learn that Annals of Family Medicine readers, legitimate respondents to the survey, we, and others are victims of this fraud. The authors brought the matter to University of Chicago research administration which independently determined that the University’s research misconduct policy did not apply to this matter.
