Abstract

Child and adolescent mental health is a growing public health crisis in Europe, yet existing responses remain fragmented and unevenly documented. This workshop aims at presenting data from different initiatives aiming at conducting a structured mapping of emerging needs, underlying determinants, “Best Practices”, and policy opportunities supporting child and adolescent mental health across 30 European countries, integrating evidence from institutional databases, grey literature, academic literature and a survey to key informants. We will also present data surveillance gaps, data quality limitations, and inconsistencies in monitoring systems, aiming to support researchers, policymakers, and public health institutions in strengthening coordinated data monitoring and data informed policies and action. Finally, the workshop aims at presenting the policy and public administration perspective, and at creating an dialogue (Round table format) with the audience to stimulate further discussion.

Key messages

• To improve mental heath of children and adolescents, actions is needed at multiple levels on multiple determinants, focusing on prevention and promotion, and on strengthening existing data.

• Best Practices exist and can be implemented to improve the mental health and well-being of children in Europe.
