The functional development of the reticulo-endothelial system

I. The uptake of intravenously injected particles by foetal rats

Abstract

A study has been made of the uptake of various particles by the reticulo-endothelial system of foetal rats. It was shown that the rate of uptake varied both with the age of the foetus and with the particles used. This indicated that the phagocytic properties of this system develop progressively during foetal life.
