Associate specialist in anaesthetics Edinburgh (b 1953; q Colombo 1977; FFA (Dublin) 1985), died from a stroke on 1 September 2005.
Kumaran (“Bob”) came to the United Kingdom in 1979 and trained in anaesthesia in Glasgow, mostly at Stobhill Hospital, from 1981 to 1988. He briefly moved to general medicine, in Glasgow then New Zealand. Bob started working at the Royal Infirmary in Edinburgh in 1991. His specialties included obstetrics, trauma, and general surgical emergencies. His regrading from staff grade to associate specialist was certainly deserved, and for many years he worked at consultant level until poor health forced him to retire early. He never married.
