Denys Burges was a consultant in occupational medicine and general practitioner in Birmingham and medical adviser to numerous manufacturing companies in the West Midlands. He was one of only a few Birmingham doctors whose stand changed the face of British general practice in the mid-1960s, leading to a renaissance lasting for 40 years. He was active at senior level in the BMA's Birmingham division, chairing the annual representatives meeting in Birmingham in 1994, 36 years after his father had done so. Much of his published research was on the health effects of nickel plating and chrome finishing on workers in the automotive industry. Predeceased by his wife, Gill, in 2003, he leaves three children and 11 grandchildren.
