Peter Alan De Raeve

Formerly general practitioner Stowmarket, Suffolk (b 1923, q University College Hospital, London, 1952), died from metastatic prostate cancer on 15 February 2006.

Peter enrolled in the Royal Air Force after leaving school and served as a navigator for Bomber Command, flying numerous dangerous missions. After qualification he joined a practice in Leicester, where he developed his interest in obstetrics and gynaecology. In 1962 he moved to Australia, returning in England in 1968 to practise in Stowmarket until retirement in 1988. He and his colleagues developed the first health centre in Suffolk to bring all of the primary healthcare team together, and he was one of the first GP trainers for Ipswich. In 1996 he achieved an MA in the history of medicine. He leaves a wife, Rosemary; two children; and three grandchildren.
