Constance (“Connie”) Catherine Forsyth

Reader in child health University of Dundee (b 1923; q Edinburgh 1945; MD), died from acute renal failure on 14 April 2006.

Constance Forsyth (“Connie”) obtained an MD with commendation on liberal diets in diabetic children, and during her further training in paediatrics at Great Ormond Street Hospital she developed an interest in corticosteroid metabolism. On appointment to the Department of Child Health in Dundee in 1957 she continued work in this field, gaining an international reputation. In the mid-1960s she was one of the first British members of the European Society for Paediatric Endocrinology. Her greatest achievement was in stimulating the foundation of what became the British Society for Paediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes by convening a meeting of British paediatric endocrinologists in Dundee in 1972.
