Abstract

A therapeutic trial of a pan-T monoclonal antibody is described in a patient with a low grade mature T cell proliferation and haemopoietic suppression. The study shows that non-complement fixing IgG1 antibodies can be highly effective opsonins, and the dose required can be estimated from in vitro studies. It is demonstrated that therapeutic failure occurred due to the appearance of anti-mouse antibodies and not to antigenic modulation or reticuloendothelial blockade. The literature is reviewed and the potential role of serotherapy in malignant disorders is discussed.
