Abstract
Heating of rat anti-sheep red cell and anti-BSA sera at 56°C for 30 min was shown to reduce the ability of the IgM globulins to activate the components of complement. The primary binding of the antisera was on the other hand not affected by heating, suggesting that heat affects the Fc portion of the immunoglobulin molecule rather than its antigen binding Fab portion.
