On qualifying during the second world war Lawrence Page joined the Royal Air Force and was posted to the Cocos Islands in the Indian Ocean. After the war he became a general practitioner in Bermondsey. He was a founder member of the Royal College of General Practitioners in 1952, receiving a 50th anniversary medal from the college in 2002. He moved to Bushey in 1962, where he remained until his retirement in 1992. Lawrence played viola in the Bushey Symphony Orchestra. He also wrote letters on behalf of prisoners of conscience and on other ethical issues and was an active member of Amnesty International. He leaves a wife, Violet; four children; and six grandchildren.
