William Graham Hickey Gamble (“Graham”) initially intended to be a paediatrician. However, he decided on a career in general practice, becoming a principal in 1977 with the Sleaford Medical Group, where he worked for the rest of his life. Graham kept his interest in children throughout his career, supervising child health clinics. His even-tempered nature also enabled him to care for patients with damaged personalities with some skill. Outside of medicine he was an enthusiastic squash player; he was the star act in his village pantomime as Widow Twankey; and he followed formula one motor racing. He leaves a wife, Angela; five children; and four grandchildren.
