After qualification in Dublin, Harry Brown served as a medical officer with the Royal Australian Navy before returning to Britain to work in general practice on the Isle of Wight. Like many doctors of his generation he emigrated to Canada and opened his own practice in Calgary, Alberta, in 1962. The call of the sea stayed with him and he set up a single handed practice in West Vancouver with admitting privileges at the Lions Gate Hospital in North Vancouver. For over 20 years he served the growing population in his area and was loved and respected by his many patients for his gentle, caring manner and the Irish twinkle in his eyes. In his spare time he enjoyed tennis, curling, and bridge. Retiring in 2000 he moved to Victoria on Vancouver Island enjoying more time with his wife (Babette) and his eight grandchildren. She survives him together with their four children, Nigel, Sally, Ian, and Clive.
