This symposium was held at the Fifty-fifth General Meeting of the Society of American Bacteriologists in New York City, May 10, 1955. It is dedicated to the memory of Dr. Barnett Cohen, a pioneer in the study of oxidation-reduction reactions in microorganisms. Dr. Howard Gest, Department of Microbiology, Western Reserve University, acted as the convenor and served as editor of the manuscripts.
