An alternative to the clinical negligence system

The authors of this Analysis article, Richard Furniss and Sarah Ormond-Walshe, correctly stated that the NHS Redress Act covers England and Wales (BMJ 2007;334:400-2, 24 Feb, doi: 10.1136/bmj.39050.696192.94). However, under section 17 of the act, the Welsh Assembly government is not bound to have the same scheme as England. A project is under way to examine what arrangements will be required in Wales.
