TIF1β functions as a coactivator for C/EBPβ and is required for induced differentiation in the myelomonocytic cell line U937

John W. Rooney and Kathryn L. Calame

“Following publication of this paper, I was informed by a colleague at another institution that experiments performed by Dr. Rooney, which are illustrated in Figure 1, could not be reproduced. Researchers in my laboratory performed the experiments again and found that TIF1β mRNA is not induced upon treatment of U937 cells with PMA or upon treatment of HL-60 cells with PMA or DMSO. TIF1β mRNA is expressed at similar levels before and after treatment in both lines. Given the central importance of this observation, I wish to retract the paper and Dr. Rooney agrees to this retraction.”
