Bob spent four years in the Royal Army Medical Corps before becoming a registrar in chest medicine. Almost immediately he was recalled to the Gloucestershire regiment in Korea. In April 1951 at the Imjin river battle he remained with the wounded and was a prisoner of war of the Chinese for three years. He was a registrar in physical medicine at St Thomas's and a senior registrar at the Royal Free before becoming a consultant at the Medway Hospitals. He leaves a wife, Heather, and two sons.
