Abstract
2-Methoxyalkyl glycerol ethers isolated from Greenland shark liver oil in a concentration of 0·5 per cent of the diet inhibited metastasis formation from the methylcholanthrene-induced sarcoma MCGI-SS in syngeneic CBA mice. This was shown for spontaneous metastases to the lymph nodes and in one experiment to the lungs and for intravenously induced metastases to the liver.
By studying the effect of the compounds not only on tumour growth but also on metastasis formation in different ways it was possible to reveal effects on metastasis formation even at dose levels not affecting the primary tumours.
