Intracellular Killing of Different Strains of Pseudomonas aeruginosa by Human Leucocytes

Abstract

Human leucocytes ingested and killed 37 strains of Ps. aeruginosa in serum which contained no detectable antibody to these bacteria. The strains of pseudomonas showed differences in virulence and slime production and included representatives of 13 serological types of Ps. aeruginosa. Pretreatment of strains of Ps. aeruginosa with sera containing pseudomonas antibody enhanced the intracellular killing of pseudomonas by human leucocytes. This enchancement of killing was not directly related to levels of natural pseudomonas antibody in the sera.
