The Hidden Toll of STDs

Abstract

This article outlines some psychological concerns of patients with sexually transmitted diseases, which they may not express unless physicians encourage discussion. Patients with STDs need counseling; physicians should consider issues of fear, guilt, and trust. Representative case histories illustrate common elements of hidden psychological damage.
