Equations can be a tricky area for authors, editors, and typesetters alike. An error somehow crept into one of the equations in the box entitled “Framingham equations for 10 year risk of event” in the Methods section of the full version (see bmj.com) of this paper by Francesco P Cappuccio and colleagues (BMJ 2002;325:1271 (http://bmj.bmjjournals.com/cgi/content/full/325/7375/1271)). Equation 2 should have started with lnσ [not with σ alone]. However, the authors say that their calculations in the paper were done correctly.
