After qualifying as a general practitioner in Perth, Ann Elizabeth Snedden specialised in psychiatry, training at Woodilee and Gartnavel Royal Hospitals in Glasgow. At the latter she contributed a chapter to the published history of the hospital. She added to her expertise by completing psychoanalytical child psychotherapy training at the Scottish Institute of Human Relations. In her work as consultant for the child psychiatry team at Possilpark Health Centre she was widely respected for her intellectual rigour, sensitivity, subtlety, and ability to improve the emotional health of her young patients in this severely deprived area of Glasgow. She was an exceptional teacher and educational supervisor. She was frustrated that latterly her illness took away from her capacity to do the work that mattered so much to her.
Outside of work she enjoyed gardening, painting, reading, and most of all time and holidays with her family and many friends. She leaves her husband, Keith Turner, and daughter, Eleanor.
Consultant child and family psychiatrist Glasgow (b 1960; q Glasgow 1983; DRCOG, MRCPsych), died from a brain tumour on 1 September 2007.
